Bafana Bafana Sweep Aside Lesotho with Convincing 3-0 Win

Bafana Bafana delivered a commanding performance to defeat Lesotho 3-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, 5 September 2025. The match took place at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, where South Africa strengthened their position at the top of Group C.

Mohau Nkota opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a composed finish, marking his first goal for the national team. Despite a scrappy first half with several fouls, Bafana Bafana held a deserved 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, South Africa increased their dominance. Lyle Foster doubled the lead in the 63rd minute, capitalising on a rebound from a powerful shot by Aubrey Modiba. Just four minutes later, Oswin Appollis extended the advantage with a clinical finish, sealing the 3-0 victory.

The game saw some early setbacks with injuries to Nyiko Mobbie and Thabo Moloisane, but Bafana Bafana’s defence held strong. The team controlled the match, dominating possession with 68% and completing nearly twice as many passes as Lesotho. They also created more chances in the attacking third.

This win solidified South Africa’s lead in Group C with 16 points from seven matches, moving them closer to automatic World Cup qualification. South Africa’s next challenge is a pivotal home clash against Nigeria on 9 September 2025.
